We're headed to the Old West in Answers in Genesis's

Gold Rush:Discovering the Rock of Ages!

Journey with us as we travel to the Old West in this Vacation Bible School adventure. As we blaze a trail into the heart of gold territory, we'll uncover the answer to that all-important question that Jesus asks: "Who do you say that I am?" along with such questions as:

  • Is Jesus the only way to heaven?
  • What was unique about Jesus' birth, life, death and  resurrection?
  • Who did Jesus say He is?
  • How can I be saved?

This fun-filled journey begins the minute you walk through the doors and experience the timeless wonders of the Old West!  Each action-packed day begins at the Gold Rush Rally, a high energy gathering complete with wacky intros, lively songs, a missions moment, a Nugget of Truth Time, and prayer.

Then it's off to visit through FIVE fun sites:
  • Dig into God's Word and uncover eternal truths at the DISCOVERY MINE BIBLE TIME.
  • Enjoy some LIP-SMACKIN' SNACKS eating great Old West grub.
  • Create 24-KARATE CRAFTS while making keepsake treasures.
  • Experience RIP-ROARIN' RECREATION at the Stampeders' Stations, the Old West relays, and other active games.
  • Enjoy some "singing on the range" with sing-along songs at the TREASURE TUNES.
Each fun-filled night will end at Discovery City, an 1860 California boomtown. It's here that you will meet the Sheriff, Theodore Tweedle and his Deputy, Otis Henry.  You'll meet Cafe Owner, Sadie Brown, Starlet Hopeful, Petunia Periwinkle, the Prospector, Caleb Foster and Dr. Marvel the "Fish Oil Salesman".  The one to watch out for is the Outlaw, Jake "The Snake" Jackson.

The fun begins...July 25 - July 29, 2011 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Family Day...July 31, 2011 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Kids, before we begin to DISCOVER THE ROCK OF AGES let us tell you a little about our mission project!  Not only are we going to discover answers to some of life's questions but we are also going to help students like yourself who need financial help to attend a christian camp. Since we've been talking about the Old West, we're going to raise scholarship money for students to attend CLYDEHURST CHRISTIAN RANCH. (http://clydehurst.com/) Clydehurst is a christian ranch out west in Montana that our former VBS volunteer, Miranda Baker, has spent her last couple of summers at. She has been working with ranch workers and counselors to help share the love of Christ to camp students and their families. So bring your dollars, nickels, pennies, quarters and dimes and let's work together to help boys and girls be able to attend Christian camp and learn about God and His love for them and discover the ROCK OF AGES  just like you!

If you love to work with wood and tinker with tools...then WOODWORKING is perfect for you!  You will learn basic assembly techniques, from sanding and assembly to painting a completed project.  With adult supervision, you will be working with power tools to build your own game sets, such as Mini Corn Hole. Great projects and skills that you will use far beyond your week at VBS. ~ Classes Closed, Registrations Full
Do you need a creative way to satisfy your sweet tooth? Then this CAKE DECORATING class is just for you!  You will be introduced to the tools and techniques of cake decorating including how to ice a cake, make borders and various simple flowers.  After all your practice, you will decorate your own 8" single layer cake to take home, enjoy and share with your family. ~ Classes Closed, Registrations Full

Whether you're a seasoned fisherman or just beginning, this course will give you hands on training and tips to make your fishing trips successful. Students will learn and practice fishing rod preparation, different types of baits, casting a fishing line and much more.  Students will also participate in Catch & Release fishing throughout the week.  This fun week will end in a Fishing Derby as students put into practice all that they learned.   Perfect for the outdoor student, who wants another reason to be outside! ~ Classes Closed, Registrations Full
Want to work your mind?...CHESS may be for you!  This class is for the beginning or intermediate player, learning basic opening, closings, notation and theory.  Patience, planning, strategy and foresight are all part of the game of Chess.  "What are the consequences of your next move?"  Class will end with a tournament.  Winner will receive a tournament style chess board and pieces.  This a contact sport of the mind taught by our own Pastor Randy who used his skill to compete in tournaments back in the day.

Do you love to paint and create art?  In this ART/PAINTING class you will learn some basic art and painting skills while having fun.  This is a class for beginners as well as those with some art skills.  You will create a project that you will have for years to come.  Students may be using some not-toxic, acrylic paints which are water-soluble BUT they stain clothes so it is highly suggested that each young artist bring a paint shirt or apron to cover their clothing.

Are you a sports lover?  Then try this sport...MARTIAL ARTS. This is a hands-on beginners’ course in martial arts.  It is being offered in the hope that it will encourage a confidence in God to see us through troublesome times - while we maintain our Christian walk.  Subjects to be addressed will include:
  • How to deal with a bully
  • Ways to protect yourself without hurting someone else
  • Developing an attitude which discourages "would be" attackers
  • How to respond if an adult attempts to take you against your will

Martial Arts will include physical training and one-on-one practice time.  Comfortable, loose fit clothing such as t-shirts and sweatpants are suggested.  An athletic supporter (or a cup) is recommended for boys, but not required.  Adequate supervision will be provided to maintain a disciplined and safe setting, but martial arts is a contact sport and can be strenuous - aches, pains and bruises should be expected.
